welcome to kate's corner

Hi! I’m Kate - a Toronto-based strategist by day and cultural explorer by night.
I’m passionate about food, travel, and building meaningful connections - sometimes all at once. Whether I’m hosting dinners, planning my next adventure, or diving into a new idea, I believe life is better when it’s shared.
As you may not know, I was professionally trained as a social worker, and that foundation continues to shape how I see the world. My training taught me to listen closely, think critically & emphatically, and understand the systems that influence people’s lives. It grounded me in empathy, resilience, and the belief that meaningful impact happens at both the individual and structural levels.
In 2022, I immigrated to Canada and began a new chapter in Toronto. Like many newcomers, I arrived with ambition, uncertainty, and a quiet determination to build something meaningful. Starting over in a new country is both humbling and empowering - it stretches you, challenges you, and invites you to redefine who you are. That experience continues to influence how I think about belonging, identity, and community.
Today, I work in strategy within the financial services industry, focusing on growth initiatives, strategic financial analysis, and process optimization. My role sits at the intersection of data, business performance, and customer experience. I’m passionate about building solutions that are not only commercially sound but also thoughtful and inclusive.
Across both my social work background and my corporate career, one theme remains constant: I care about people. I’m drawn to building spaces where connection feels intentional and meaningful. Whether that’s through organizing community gatherings, organizing ERG, hosting conversations, or collaborating across teams, I believe strong relationships are at the core of sustainable success.
Food and travel are two of the ways I explore culture and connection outside of work. I’m curious about how cities tell their stories through history and cuisine, and how shared meals create understanding across backgrounds. For me, exploration is less about speed and more about depth - taking time to learn, listen, and experience. I'd definitely share my culinary journey and interesting stories one day. From eating doubles & saheena in Trinidad to interviewing the owner of one of the oldest cafes in Hong Kong (they have an elevator for food!).
As an immigrant, a strategist, and a lifelong learner, I’m continuously reflecting on growth - personal and professional. I’m interested in leadership, identity, and how we navigate ambition while staying grounded in who we are.
This blog is a space to document the projects, reflections, and experiences that don’t fit neatly into a resume. It’s where I bring together structure and curiosity, analysis and creativity. Most of all, it’s a place to share the journey as it unfolds.
Welcome - I’m glad you’re here.
