Lunar New Year is the most important celebration in Chinese culture, and it holds some of my fondest childhood memories. From clutching red envelopes and feeling like the richest kid on earth, to walking over a “red carpet” made of spent firecrackers, everything felt magical. It was the one time of year when you could count on seeing every relative and family friend, staying up late to play card games, and soaking in a kind of warmth that lasted long after the holidays ended.

My family celebrated the Lunar New Year both in Hong Kong and Huangbu (located in the southern part of China). Both places have their unique charms and activities. LNY felt flat in Toronto without family and childhood friends. This year, I wanted to bottle up a little bit of that feeling and share it in a playful way. So I built a Lunar New Year mini‑game that walks you through some of the taboos, traditions, and quirks of celebrating in Hong Kong and China. It’s simple and lighthearted, but my hope is that it helps you learn something new, smile at something familiar, or just take a short break to soak in the New Year spirit.
